Our weekend

Hi. It's me. Just incase you forgot, because I've been the worst blogger. Friday, I actually started a "Favorites" post, but fell asleep and it never happened. And once the weekend begins, forget about it. No time!
#baseballmom

But, I'm here today and that's what matters, right?!

First and foremost, many of you have asked about and been praying for my friend's baby. She arrived Wednesday night and is absolutely perfect!! Thank you for the prayers. Maybe she'll make a guest appearance on the blog in the near future. ;-)

Our weekend started on Friday, and it was a great day! My mom called me on Friday morning and asked if our nanny could bring the girls over to her house. They had my nephews for the weekend and the boys wanted to play in the pool with my girls. My mom said they'd even keep them for naps. Um, yes, please! This meant that I had a couple hours in the afternoon to workout and mop my floors. It was glorious. Amazing how productive I can be, without little people at my feet! And I really love starting the weekend with a clean house (and clean floors)!

While I was doing that, they were doing this.
#roughlife

Saturday morning, I heard our doorbell ring, and was confused. Turns out, my hubby ran to Starbucks to surprise me with a special drink. Thanks, babe. He knows the way to my heart.

And then we had a couple hours before the baseball tournament (thank you afternoon games), to get some yard work done. We had 5 yards of crushed rock and 5 yards of beauty bark/mulch delivered. When it's poured on the front driveway, that's definitely motivation to get it spread and cleaned up! Our poor neighbors have to stare at it until it's done! I'm excited to show some pictures of our progress. We are making some pretty major changes to our batting cage and the very back of our yard.

These two took a little snack break between the work. They are pretty darn good helpers, I'm telling you. Especially Molly. She likes to get the job done!

And then Saturday afternoon and evening, this is what we did. Baseball, baseball and more baseball. So thankful for the weather, awesome boys, and the BEST families! I don't think I could survive baseball season without the support of the baseball moms. We've spent hours and hours together this season, and we're only halfway done!

Sunday was another tournament, but our game didn't start until lunch time, so we had the morning to do a little yard work, bake some cookies, and get a few projects taken care of around the house. This guy attempted oatmeal cookies completely on his own.

I love this cute sister crew at all of the games. This isn't all of the sisters, but quite a few. Today, they were playing dress up with scarves, jewelry and lip gloss, and prancing around the sidelines. Cutest thing, ever!

Meanwhile, this handsome bat boy, was serious about his role. I love that Brett gets to be a part of the game, too.

Post-game, Jake had a birthday party, so I took the younger three to the park, to the grocery store and then out to dinner. And when we got home at 7:30pm, I literally felt like I would collapse. Instead, I bathed all three, cleaned the house (which was a disaster at this point!), did a couple loads of laundry, prepped meals for the week, and finally collapsed on the couch at 9:30pm. Such is life right now.

How fun is this party?! Jake's best buddy also turned 10, and they spent the party swimming, rock climbing and doing a ton of cool things!

I took this picture because she looked so old as she was climbing. And then I realized that her curls are starting to fall as her hair gets longer. Wahhhh. She had the most beautiful curls in her hair and they are slowly turning to waves with the weight of her hair. I never want to cut it because I'm afraid they will be gone forever. When her hair is really clean, after a bath, they ringlet up, but after a few hours, they look pulled out. Boo!

I had to take this picture of myself at the park to show you some real life. My pants were filthy! Baseball games are dusty and dirty and there is no way around that!

This is way past bedtime, but gave me a chance to do the dishes in peace and quiet. I had to run out and take a quick picture because it was just too cute. All three of them were shooting hoops with their own basketballs (and baskets).

I hope you had a great weekend, too! For many of you, it's summer already. I'm so jealous! We've got 3 weeks of school left. Not sure I can make it!!!!!!

What's up Wednesday

Happy Hump Day!
The best part is that it's the first day of the week, since we didn't have school the past two days...and it's a THREE day week!! Yay!

I'm linking up with Shay, Shaeffer and Mel to share:
WHAT'S UP WEDNESDAY!

{What I'm eating}

Oh, boy have we been eating. I'm doing the 21 day fix (and Adam has been a good sport and doing the food part with me, too) so we've been making all kinds of yummy things. Here are a few of my favorite meals, from lately.

{What I'm reminiscing about}

How quickly the school year flew by and how excited we are for summer! It's hard to believe that we only have a few weeks left. It's times like this, that I'm super thankful I married a teacher. I mean, I love him for lots and lots and lots of reasons, but the fact that we have breaks and summer off together, is one of my favorite things! We've been working on our summer bucket list and I've got a blog post in progress, to show you exactly how that will work for us.

{What I'm loving}

Because I've changed my eating habits recently, I've had to be more creative with my coffee. I've relied so heavily on coffee creamer, and it's been the hardest thing to give up. I found this Starbucks iced coffee at the grocery store. Trust me, when I say it's worth it! It sure makes making fun drinks easy. I've been blending it with almond milk, cocoa powder, vanilla extract and PB2. It's good!!!!!

{What we've been up to}

We've been spending most of our time outside. We have a rule on nice days...you stay outdoors all day. Starting around 9am, they have to be outdoors until after dinner time, except for bathroom breaks and a small rest time (where the bigs can watch a show or two). It works well for our kids, and despite initial complaints, it's amazing how well they use their imaginations.

This past week, we also had baseball games, swimming lessons, a choir concert (see these proud siblings surrounding their big brother, after the concert)......

and some toddler gym.

{What I'm watching}

Um, hello! The Bachelorette is back on, so you know what I'm watching! I've got to be honest, I'm a tad disappointed that Britt didn't get chosen (I really think she's not as crazy as the Bachelor made her out to be), but I'm happy she seems to have found true love outside of the show. So, any favorites so far? I haven't decided if I'll peek at the spoilers or not.

Even though a lot of our favorite shows have ended for the season (hello, Scandal), Chicago PD is still going strong and getting good! I love Erin and can't believe she quit! That can't happen, right?! She's got to come back!

{What I'm working on}

Growing this blog! I've been a pretty terrible blogger lately and I plan to change that, soon! I've been hemming and hawing over ads, and what I want that to look like. I'm trying to make some design decisions and I'm looking forward to some changes in the near future. Stay tuned and please let me know what you want to read! I love the feedback from my readers. And I promise to be a better blog reader, once summer starts!

{What I'm looking forward to}

SUMMER!!!! Need I say more?! To be honest, I'm also looking forward to car shopping, happening sometime in the near future. We've got to get a larger vehicle. It's amazing how small things seem, when you add in a lot of kids (and sports equipment). Any suggestions on a good SUV with a large trunk? We currently have a GMC Acadia, and as much as I love it, we need something bigger. No minivans, please (I know they are practical, but they don't have the trunk space, either), and must seat 6-7 people. =)

{What I'm wearing}

I've been wearing a whole lot of workout clothes lately. I know, boring! But, I'm looking to update my workout wardrobe and treating myself, when I complete the fix. I love Nike stuff, I also love Lululemon. Excited to share my favorite workout gear with you, soon!

{What I'm doing this weekend}

Jake's got another baseball tournament, so we will do a whole lot of spectating. Good thing we love it!! And the weather is supposed to be in the upper 70's, so it will be the perfect weather.

{What else is new}

If you could all lift up a quick prayer, or good thought. One of my very, very best friends is having her baby TODAY!!!! I've blogged about her before, but they lost their little boy, unexpectedly, during birth, 17 months ago. Today, they will welcome a sweet little girl, who will carry her brother's name in her middle name. And this proud auntie will be sure to share the news, once she's here! I cannot wait!!!

June's Question

{What's your favorite thing to grill}

Black bean burgers. These are from Costco and are amazing!!!! I can't get enough of them! Even my red meat loving hubby thinks they are delicious! We also love grilling salmon, kabobs, steak and corn on the cob. Yum. My mouth is watering!!

Weekending

I'm a day late updating about our weekend, but better late than never, right?! We had a really good weekend. Originally, we had a baseball tournament scheduled, so we made zero plans. When the tournament got moved to next weekend, it meant that we had freedom for four days (we have Tuesday off, as well). Horray! I honestly, can't remember the last time we didn't have major weekend plans, and it feels good!

Friday night, we hung out as a family and watched a movie with the kids. I caught this little lady just hanging out on the kitchen floor reading a book....because, why not?

Saturday we celebrated a sweet first birthday party. Brylie loved the cupcakes!!

The kids had fun on the big toy.

And these three cuties who have been friends since birth. They are little stair steps...ages 7, 5, and 3.

Saturday evening, Adam and Jake went to a high school baseball playoff game and I met my sister and her family for some Yeti Yogurt. I love that my kids have cousins that live close by. I love my cousins dearly, but there were none within a quick 5-minute drive. It's so fun that they get to grow up, almost like siblings.

Post-bath stories. I didn't set this picture up at all. In fact, I was busy cleaning up the bathroom and walked into this. He really is, the sweetest brother.

Sunday morning called for a little Nutella on toast. Some church and lots of time in the yard.

Weird fact: our house was the model home for our neighborhood when it was first built. This meant that the garage was used as the neighborhood office. It's fully finished and had an industrial type carpet inside. In fact, the previous owners kept it as a finished office space and parked in the detached garage behind our house. We never bothered taking out the carpet when we moved in (I liked the cozy feeling on my feet in the mornings), but it started to get old and worn with my SUV parked on top of it for 6 years. Hubby got a wild hair and decided to rip all of the carpets out. And so he did. Now, we are researching finishing options for the floor. Suggestions are appreciated! He'd like to paint it and then, maybe, put a rough finish over the top, to prevent slipping.

It always looks worse before it gets better, right?! Stay tuned for our after pics in a few weeks!

While he worked on that, I did this. Meal planning and prep for the whole week. It took me a little over an hour, but I cooked all of the meat, cut all of our veggies and fruit, and cooked quinoa and couscous that we'll use as sides. Totally worth it, in my opinion. I'm still doing the 21 day fix and am excited to share my results.....

After one week, I've lost 1.2 lbs and 2.5 inches. I honestly feel so much stronger and healthier! I know that I didn't have a lot of weight to lose, but I mostly, wanted to force myself to be aware of my eating habits for a few weeks, so that I could get back to healthier ones. For the past 10 years, I've been pregnant or nursing and haven't had to worry about what I eat. Now, I have a lifetime to create good habits! Stay tuned for next week's results.

Here's my post-cardio fix, no make-up, full sweat picture. You're welcome.

Sunday night, we headed to my parents for our traditional Sunday night dinner. My kids love it so much! We just watched Brylie run, giggle and squeal across the grass. She proceeded to throw herself on the ground and start rolling and rolling. Oh to be a toddler!

Meanwhile, the other kids enjoyed some hot tub and pool time.

And finally, Sunday night, the boys begged for Brylie to sleep in their bed. I told them they'd have to go to bed early and they agreed. As I suspected, it didn't last too long, but it sure was cute.

Monday could be summed up into this picture. Yard work, yard work and more yard work. Even our kids were working hard and we are still not done! I love having a big yard, but it's not for the faint of heart. I am proud to say that we got the play area cleaned out, raked, weeded and trimmed. Who wants to come over and play?!

I hope you had a great long weekend. We realize that this long weekend isn't just about yard work, and BBQ's and family time, it's about remembering those who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our country. And for that, we are incredibly thankful.

God bless, America.
