I'm baaaaaaack!!!!!!

Oh hey!!! It's me!!! I'm baaaaaack!!!!

I never thought that blog writing would become a chore to me, but just as soon as I felt the sense of dread when writing, I knew it was time for a break. When I started blogging, it was a creative outlet for me. After writing for over a year, it felt like an obligation, and less fun. Hence the break.

I can't promise that I'll be as diligent and consistent as I once was, but I do promise to get back into blogging a bit. Thank you SO much to those of you who texted, commented, or sent messages to me during this break. Some of you, complete strangers who reached out to let me know that you were missing my blog. Way to make a girl feel special. I really appreciate you! XO

I know I've got a whole lot of catching up to do, but for now, I'm going to begin with my #40bagsin40days challenge. Today marks the beginning of Lent, which means the beginning of my decluttering mission. Keeping my house clean is one thing, but keeping the clutter to a minimum is a whole nother beast! I plan to tackle it ALL and enter spring feeling refreshed!! The only spring cleaning we'll be doing around here is to our outside areas (hopefully!!!).

If you haven't heard of the 40 bags in 40 days challenge, click here to get more information and the printable you'll need to follow along! Let me know in the comment section if you plan to participate, so I can cheer you on, and get some moral support! ;-)

Wish me I'm starting with our kitchen desk. This can be a catch all area and just as quickly as we clean it off, paper clutter seems to magically appear. If you have any good ideas for paper organization, please let me know!! I'm all ears!

Here's to 40 days, a new blog, and a refreshed outlook on life!

My first jobs

One of my favorite link-ups, is one that I just cannot miss....despite my dismal performance as a blogger, lately.
Show and Tell Tuesday with Andrea at Momfessionals.
I love her blog and I'm certain that we'd be BFF's if she lived around here. Well, at least from my perspective. We're both moms, teachers, bloggers, started with 2 boys and a girl...and then I was crazy and went for one more girl. Anyway, she's really fun to read about, so if you haven't checked out her blog, DO IT!
Today's prompt is to tell you about our first jobs. Ahhh, where do I start?! I guess I'll just share my jobs from high school. They were random and crazy, for sure.
When I was in junior high/high school, I worked with a modeling agency in the Seattle area. I did some print work and commercial work for them, and eventually, when I could drive, they hired me to teach some of their modeling classes for young kids. I really loved the job, but I hated the drive! I still can't believe I commuted so far as a young high school student.

My second job was as a courtesy clerk at Safeway. Say what?! Yes, that is the fancy name for the person who bags your groceries and offers to carry them out to your car. I remember a few highlights from my to perfectly pack a grocery sack, always thank by last name when they check out, instead of offering to carry out groceries, insist on it, and make sure to NEVER miss a break. Those unions are for real.

After Safeway, and as soon as I turned 18, I got hired by Red Robin as hostess. This was the best! I absolutely loved working here. I spent about 4 years working for them, mostly just summers and holidays during college. I even got the Employee of the Year award one year! Pretty sure you could find my name on a plaque or something. ;-)
College brought a few more random jobs, including a computer lab student-assistant (best job ever!) and musical theatre performer. Everything led to my dream, which was to become a teacher. Something I've been doing for 13 years. Crazy!!

What's up Wednesday?!

Happy hump day! We're halfway through the week, our MOPS group kicks off tonight (say a prayer for me, please...this is my first year as the coordinator), and the weather is glorious. What can be better than that?! I'm linking up with some of my favorite bloggers (Shay, Shaeffer and Mel) for a little, "What's Up Wednesday?!"
I've got to be honest, with Adam gone at football practice during dinner every night, it leaves me little motivation to cook gourmet meals. I've got a 21-day fix challenge group running right now, so I've been following the meal plan as much as possible. Here's a yummy breakfast burrito (scrambled eggs rolled into a tortilla) with fresh avocado and tomatoes on the side. I usually pour a little hot sauce over the top, as well.
Saturday morning donuts with my crew. How cute are the Seahawks ones?!

Delicious stir fry with chicken, and fresh veggies, served over quinoa. A favorite around here.

Here's one of my quick lunch ideas when I want to save a red container for later....I dice Brussel sprouts and sauté them in EVOO, mix in diced apples and walnuts, and voila! SO GOOD!

Here's a quick breakfast for dinner idea. Just scrambled eggs with spinach, tomatoes and cheese. Serve with toast and turkey bacon and the kids love it!

I'm actually hosting a FREE 5-day crockpot challenge on Facebook, so if you'd like to join it, send me an email, or comment below with your email, and I'll get you in there! We will be posting recipes on Friday, and officially start on Monday!

I love the state fair! It's one of my very favorite parts about fall. This weekend, we visited for the fourth and final time this month, and the weather couldn't have been more glorious!

My boys are actually on that coaster, in the 3rd row. Crazy daredevils!

Can you say, hello, Indian Summer?! GORGEOUS, sunshine, clear skies. Oh, fall. You are too good!!!

I think we can sum up life in just a couple words. Youth sports. Football. Soccer. Dance. Throw in MOPS and Awana, church, and the hubby's high school football team and you can see why our lives are a bit crazy these days. But, I wouldn't want it any other way!

Rain and gloom. We've had a nearly perfect summer and fall so far, but I know the rain and gloomy days are ahead. I'm preparing myself mentally and trying to embrace the sun before it goes into hiding for a few months.

A couple weeks ago, my Back to Fitness challenge group had some AMAZING results!!! Seriously, look at these numbers! I just finished week #1 of my Fall Fabulous group and they are on pace to crush those numbers! Watching people have dramatic losses and finally start to feel good about their bodies is a feeling I can't describe. So incredible!

I can hardly stand how excited I am to start the new season on Thursday night!! Eeek!!!
Our book club is reading this right now. I just ordered it, so I'll let you know how it is when I'm done!

I went to the Keith Urban concert last week and he was hands down, the best performer I've ever been to! He's totally incredible and amazing!! Sorry Carrie (Underwood), you've been replaced. ;-)

I haven't been great at remembering to take pictures, but here are a couple. I'm loving flow-y tops, lots of layers, big jewelry and skinny jeans. Oh, and wedges. The perfect fall combo.

GIRLS WEEKEND!!!!! I'm taking a much weekend out-of-town with some of my besties and I cannot wait!!!!!!!
Gimme all the pumpkins!! October means pumpkin patches and I'm seriously giddy with excitement!! Molly's preschool is going on a field trip there, we have a couple dates to meet friends and we usually do some last minute trips as well. Can't wait!
It's no surprise that blogging hasn't been my strong suit lately. The reason I started a blog was as a creative outlet to me, and I promised myself that I'd never let it stress me out. So for that reason, I've really taken a step back during this busy season of life. I'm not sure where things will take me, but I do enjoy writing when I can....and I LOVE that you readers have continued to support me! I have some things in the works with a couple different companies and I'm excited to share soon! Thanks for being patient with me!!

FIVE on Friday!

Hello, Friday. You are my favorite! Especially today.
It's the last day of the first full week of school, and I've got to be honest, I'm beat. My voice is practically gone because it's so tired from overuse, and I haven't been sleeping well at night. The first few weeks of school are like a blur to me....and then I settle into a routine and all is well again.
But, it's Friday! I'll fight through the exhaustion for a smile. And am looking forward to some great football tonight!
With that said, here are some of my favorites from the week.
Bolthouse Farms dressing. If you haven't tried it, you need to! I started buying it after I learned that it was approved for the 21-day fix. And then I was hooked! I used to have 34789325 coffee creamers in my fridge, and now I have these. My favorites are classic ranch, avocado cilantro, and blue cheese. But, there are so many more than that. Most grocery stores carry them in the refrigerated section, right by the bagged salads. Try them! You're welcome.

Starbucks, you win. Again. I've always loved the classic look of the Starbucks cup, and the holiday cup....but hello cute Seahawks sleeve. I mean, really. These are just the cutest! And when the hubs delivers one of these on a weekend morning, they taste that much better!

This girl, on her very first day of preschool, is one of my favorites this week. She was SO excited to finally start school! I love her excitement and I can't wait to watch her growth over the course of the year. Molly Kate, we love you!

New babies are always my favorite! One of my girlfriends gave birth to a sweet, fresh, delicious new baby yesterday. The girls and I visited her today and we couldn't have been more smitten. She's just perfect! Meet sweet baby Avery.

Fair scones. Yesterday, our school district takes a 1/2 day (yes, you read that right) to go to the state fair. We took our kids, got them each a ride bracelet, and we let them ride until we literally dropped. Adam and I were so beat when we got home that we walked straight up to our room, and literally fell into our bed. Neither of us remembers even falling asleep. Getting up this morning was rough. Really rough! But, it was worth it because we had a GREAT time at the fair. We splurged on some fair food, which included krusty pups, scones and cow chip cookies. #holla! Good thing we just ended our last round of the 21-day fix and won't be starting another until next Monday. Ha!

With that, T.G.I.F. I hope you have a fantastic weekend with the people you love the most! XO
A special shout out to the ladies at H54F! I got an email last night, letting me know that I was their featured blogger. Totally honored and surprised! Check out their fun blogs and join in with their Friday linkup!

Show & Tell Tuesday

I'm linking up with one of my favorite bloggers, Andrea, to share my Show & Tell Tuesday post. Today's 5 people you'd want to invite to a dinner party.
This was REALLY hard for me because there are so many people I'd love to have at a dinner party. I want fun, intriguing, inspiring, uplifting and down to earth people there.
1. Kelly Ripa

The obvious choice, for me, is Kelly Ripa. She's my celebrity crush and has been since she started on Regis and Kelly many, many years ago. She's fun, funny and I think she'd be so easy to chat with! Seriously, I think we'd be friends! Even though I never watch TV at 9am, I DVR her show and have for 5+ years. Often, I only watch little clips from the beginning of the show, but she's my favorite person on TV so she'd get the first invite.
2. Russell Wilson
My second choice would be Russell Wilson. How can you not love this guy? Not only is he a tremendous superstar athlete, but he's a humble Christian with a great head on his shoulders. Sitting down and talking with him would be so inspiring. He seems friendly and real. Exactly the kind of guy that I'd want to have over for dinner with friends.
3. Carrie Underwood

Carrie Underwood. She's second only to Kelly Ripa as far as my celebrity coaches go. I LOVE HER. And I've met her. I actually have my picture with her. I'm sure she remembers me. I mean how could she forget? I'll tell you what, though. This girl is tiny! I'm 5'6" 120 lbs and I towered over her like a beast! Seriously, she can't weigh more than 100 lbs soaking wet and I bet she's not over 5'2". So, she'd have to show up in some heels to make us taller people not feel so freakishly tall! ;-) Though, she was so kind and sweet when I met her, and I'm certain she would be the perfect guest at a party!
4. Oprah Winfrey
And who wouldn't invite Oprah? I actually shared this with my students last week, in class. I heard about an informal study that a magazine did with it's readers, asking them to choose one celebrity to sit next to on an airplane. I think Oprah won by a landslide. She's confident, but full of character and integrity. I would love to listen to her tell stories about her life and all that she's done to help the girls of South Africa with the Leadership Academy. Her work is amazing and so is she!
5. Kate Middleton

The final guest at my party would be Princess Kate. I'm not sure what it is about her, but she intrigues me. She lives in the constant spotlight, and yet she seems so normal. I would love to chat with her and let our kids play. Obviously, I know nothing about her, other than what the media portrays, but I see her as a very down to earth mom, who makes her kids a priority. She's elegant and classy, without being over the top. It would be fun to see her interact with the guests.
Okay, now I really want this party to happen! These people are so fun!!! Who's coming to your party? Can't wait to hear!

The weekend!

Whew! What a weekend! I survived my first week back-to-school and am (mostly) looking forward to another great week with my students. It was so nice to have a fun-filled, sunny weekend, to keep the flame of summer alive!
Friday, our state fair opened and I met my sister, her kids and my parents (who had my girls) down there for a fun-filled afternoon! Originally, our plan was to buy the kids ride bracelets so they could spend an afternoon doing rides, but we found out that opening day, there are NO ride bracelets. Say what?! So instead, we opted for the food, the animals and all the sight seeing. We'll go back another day for the rides!
Oh, and did I mention that it was H-O-T?! Yeah, I was sweating! And pushing a double stroller. The entire afternoon. #icounteditasmyworkout #duh

Oh, and it was Blue Friday, too! If you aren't from the Seattle area, you wouldn't understand. Trust me. ;-)

Friday night, after logging 3479249 miles of walking at the fair, we drove up north for Adam's football game. It was a beautiful night! Sadly, we lost the game (especially after being ahead by a lot at half time).  However, it was non-league, and doesn't count in our record. My mother-in-law graciously watches our kids most football games so that I can watch without wrangling and dealing with overtired, cranky children. It is a HUGE blessing to me!

Saturday morning, the sun was shining, and my car was full of kids excited for Jake's very first official tackle football game. Adam had been there much earlier setting up, so I was alone, the music was blasting and we were pumped!!

People kept asking me if I was nervous because Jake plays quarterback. Honestly, I thought I would be, but I wasn't. Mostly, just SO excited. I love the absolute passion my boy has for the game. He studies film, draws plays for days, and talks football with his daddy, non stop. When he's on the field, I'm just so happy because I know he is, too.
They had a great win over this team and Jake had a couple TD's and some fun plays to watch. A great start to the season!!

We commemorated the moment with a family pic.
Saturday afternoons were for naps and some cookie baking with chef Brett. These whole wheat sugar cookies were yum! And he made them completely from scratch with ZERO help from either of us! I'm telling you, he's getting good! Someday, he's going to make some lady happy! Who wouldn't want to marry a chef?!

Sunday, we made a pact that the day was all about our family. We are going in a million different directions, and we wanted to focus on each other. We missed church (for the first time in a loooong time) and spent our entire morning just hanging out and enjoying eachother's company. Adam even went up and grabbed Starbucks for the special occasion. Molly felt it necessary to add some flair to her Seahawks gear as we prepared for the first regular season game against the Rams. Another sad loss!

This is what they did, while me and the boys watched the game.

And then Sunday night brought dinner with my entire family. One of my favorite nights of the week.

I hope you all had a relaxing weekend with family and friends! Bring on week #2 of school!
